Hello Châtelainers!

It’s been a while since we sent out a newsletter but that doesn’t mean that nothing has been happening at Châtelaine HQ! Check out what's new :)

Addition to the Resources Section

Some of you may be regular visitors to the resources section of the site where you can find all sorts of helpful information from an errata list for the designs, materials lists, and instructions for the specialty stitches used. A few months ago, we added a list of options for crystal replacements now that Swarovski is no longer supplying this market – there are options out there to add the wonderful sparkle to your pieces.

The most recent addition to this section is a list of the discontinued/replaced Delica beads. Miyuki, who manufactures Delica beads, are changing some of the finishes on the beads and as a result, some will be completely discontinued and others will have a suitable alternative. So, if you find it hard to source some beads, check the list to see if what you are looking for is on there.

Supplies and Suppliers

On the subject of supplies for your Châtelaine, some of you know that it has been hard to source some of the silks used in the designs. So, we just wanted to ask you to be patient as when you do receive these gorgeous materials, they will be worth the wait and will ensure that your Châtelaine is an heirloom piece. Some shops are struggling to get supplies so it’s worth checking back regularly to see if they have got stock of what you need.

Not everyone knows that the companies that produce many of the materials used in the Châtelaines are only small businesses and their beautiful threads are worked by hand. They are not large factories manufacturing things in bulk but rather producing their items in small batches. These companies struggled with orders after the pandemic and are still having to catch up as best they can. Although you could sub out these silks for DMC or some other brand, if you truly want your Châtelaine to look like the design and the finished pieces you see in the gallery, then you need to use the recommended materials.

Featured Design & Stitcher

We are delighted to feature the Venice Mandala stitched by Carol Hendry. Venice is a very special place for her and her husband, they love to visit whenever they can to celebrate special anniversaries. It is stitched on 28ct Aquarius opal linen by Sparklies Fabrics using the recommended materials. She started stitching it in April 2017 and completed it in September 2022.

This is a beautiful piece of work, Carol, thanks for sending it to us.

If you would like your work to appear on the website, on social media, or in a future newsletter, then email us with your pictures and a bit of information about you, along with how and why you stitched the design. We love seeing your work and it’s great for future stitchers to be inspired by the work that you all do.
